The Past

Listening to The Flaming Lips. Mainly Fight Test and Bad Days. Fight Test is the theme song of 3-South, a short-lived (surprise) cartoon about college life. Both 3-South and Undergrads are some of my favorite cartoons, just because they focus on the same issue in different ways, of getting used to living on your own.

I moved out at 18 to go to college, and did fine. Even with a high school friend as a roommate that flaked out and abandoned me. Now, I'm 25 and have successfully lived alone for the last year. Looking back, I miss the camaraderie of college life. The open schedule, the free spirits (Not alcohol) and just the learning.

It's not to say it was wasted. I have a job to pay for those debts I racked up and I have my health and I'm happy. And I knew those times wouldn't last forever. Looking back on my photos, 2007, the year post graduation was the happiest of my life. It was basically a college year without any classes, but all of the fun.

I think back to those days and smile. I knew it was awesome back then. A totally fucked up sleep schedule is something to appreciate. Today I work a 10-7 job, Monday through Friday in a cube. That's not to say I complain about it, but it's a schedule I have to keep, like any responsible adult. Back in 2007, I didn't have to answer to anyone. Played tons of games, explored a lot of Seattle, made a lot of friends, spent a lot of time at the beach and went to a SHITLOAD of concerts. Everyone from Muse to Daft Punk.

My goal in life is to get a year half as good as 2007 once more. Once Katia gets back, soon I hope, we can start working on that goal. I want to have a life where I can go without looking back and breathe. Some people freak out when they have nothing to do. I can thrive in a vacuum of responsibility. I can always set my own goals. See the KROQ lists or my game collection for an example.

My mind never stops and only when I'm free from money can I be truly free. In the meantime, I need to earn the chance to repeat 2007. I'll continue working hard and making a name for myself.
